The Botanical surprise wedding of Penny and Dan. They look like perfectly lovely (if a little bit too gorgeous) people right? They would never do anything devious or misleading right? WRONG! These two beautiful people pulled off the biggest surprise wedding ever.
While all of their friends were gathering at the Botanical for Penny and Dan’s ENGAGEMENT party, we were secretly around the corner at the Hatton Hotel photographing them on their WEDDING DAY!
Penny and Dan frocked up a few hours before the party and we took these pics of them around the hotel. Later Penny changed into her party frock so the guests wouldn’t figure out what was going on too soon.
Their matching gingham bows were too cute and Penny’s were sneaky clip off bows so she could have a swift outfit change later.
A few hours into the party, Penny snuck back to the hotel, popped her amazing layered wedding dress back on and was announced back into the Botanical by Dan who had taken the microphone. He casually announced to the room that he and Penny were in fact about to get MARRIED and there was an eruption of applause and cheers to rival the crowd at the Grand Final.
Penny and Dan’s charm is so great they even had relatives in town from the UK, who thought they were there for an engagement party. And even though their parents knew about the surprise, it didn’t stop those wonderful tears of happiness that I so adore at weddings.
Part way through the ceremony all of the electricity went out (cue more cheering from the guests). For anyone else you would think this would spell disaster, but not these two. The show must go on as they say, so in the glow of the emergency lights, a friend sang U2’s “All I Want is You” perfectly with no backing track. A beautiful song, made all the more moving by the silence that came over the room.
Such a wonderful couple and such a fun evening! Penny and Dan I wish you many more wonderful surprises in your new life together.
