Savannah and Tom met in a southern Californian Highschool, when Tom was arsty, angsty, angry Senior and Savannah was blonde and quiet and read too much.
I met them by total coincidence on their wedding day when I was preparing for another wedding. You might remember this post. I’m happy to say they did get in touch and we put together this styled shoot for them. While it was styled, their story and love is very real AND it has now been featured on Polkadot Bride…*squeeeeeeeee*
When they met Tom was vegan with dyed black hair, he spent his weekly allowance on American Spirit smokes and Big Red cinnamon chewing gum (Savannah tells me that’s what their first kiss tasted like). Savannah was blonde and quiet and read too much. They would meet for coffee, always black, and Tom would pay for 25 cent refills. The first summer they were together they spent six glorious weeks hiding out in an apartment in LA. They went to the LA film festival, stayed up and drank bottles of cheap red wine, made pot after pot of coffee, but mostly they just talked.
They spent two years in Southern California, took road trips to LA, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. They fell in love with the tree lined, sometimes smelly streets of Portland. We decided to move there in November 2011. they had the TINIEST apartment, it was cold, broke and hungry but the city was marvelous, and they were in love.
In 2012 we took the big leap and came to Australia together. They had spoken about getting married but never made any concrete plans. When Savannah agreed to follow Tom he proposed, he was pretty sure if she liked him enough to move across continents she would be pretty keen to say “yes” . AND HE WAS RIGHT.
It wasn’t possible for Savannah’s family to come for the wedding, so they decided to do something quick and fabulous that no one would be too heart broken about missing. So, after a super quick ceremony at The Old Treasury Building in Melbourne, they took Polaroids of each other. (this is when I met them!) They had lunch and bloody Marys at Lux Foundry in Melbourne then gelato on the boardwalk of Williamstown. Savannah tells me it was a pretty killer day.
They are honeymooning in Paris and Bruges, Belgium. And they couldn’t be happier together, which is what you wanna hear when you promised your life to another person, right?
A huge thank you to the talented folks that worked on this shoot, Savnnah, Tom and puppy Charlie
